JOURNEY -Wed 30th and Thu 31st July –
Our first night was spent aboard the Caledonian Sleeper train to London. I awoke very close to London. Our group from Thurso met with colleagues and friends who were travelling from Liverpool and Stirling at Gatwick airport. Together we are two projects; the DAVOCCAP project, which includes me, Roxane and Mark and the PEATEDGE project, Richard, Angela and Joss.

Our flight to Russia took us to Moscow Domodedovo airport, where were very quick to pass through all the steps to be ready for out next flight, so we even had time for dinner at the airport before catching the flight to Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia.
We were welcomed in Khanty-Mansiysk by Elena Lapshina and Yaroslav who run the Mukhinro Field Station, along with a very heavy rain shower to make us feel at home. That evening (evening for us but 4am Khanty-Mansiysk time – we are 5 hours ahead) we went to Shapsha field station, also run by Yugra State University for some tea, Russian biscuits and much needed sleep!
